A client from Anchorage, Alaska, came in with a 2016 Subaru WRX STI and inquired about an remote starter for the brand-new car. We went over options such as choosing between a one-way and a two-way. We then talked about how far away they would be when starting the vehicle. We ended up going with the Compustar T11. This unit is a two-way with up to 3 miles of range. It is crush-proof and water-resistant. The T11 also has a three-year warranty on the remotes.
This 2016 WRX is a manual transmission, so the install is a little more invasive than with automatic transmissions. We did have to use extra parts, such as the FT-DAS, which is an advance motion sensor designed for manual transmission vehicles. If the vehicle were to accidentally start in gear, it senses the movement and shuts down the vehicle immediately. We also made sure this WRX had the ability to turn on defrost when remote started when the temperature reaches 42 degrees.
We did our install using the same procedures as with every vehicle we handle, with our check-in and check-out form. We vacuumed the vehicle and, before we pulled the Subaru out of our service bay, we added a complimentary Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security water bottle, and a VIP hanger. We taught our client how to use the new remote start and answered any questions.
