With winter just around the corner, a new client from Anchorage, Alaska, came in with a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek to inquire about a remote starter for their brand-new car. We went over different options, such as choosing between a one-way and a two-way system. We then talked about how far away the vehicle probably would be when the client would try to start it. Compustar has models with ranges starting at 1,000 feet all the way up to 3 miles, or even unlimited range through the DroneMobile system.
The unit we ended up going with was the Compustar CS800. This unit is a one-way system with 1,000 feet of range.
We always start by checking every function of the car, using our iPads to record everything. We performed our install using Tesa tape and zip ties, and soldering each connection. Once we complete the installation, we have a different technician check the vehicle over. He reviews the functions and also inspects the work that was performed. In this case, he checked the hood pin, break shutdown, unlock, lock and remote start features. The hood pin is essential in every remote start. It is a pin under the hood that detects whether the hood is open or closed. If the hood is open and someone tries to remote start the truck, it will not start and will give an error. The hood pin is an important safety feature, so we install a hood pin on every vehicle that gets a remote starter.
Before we pulled the Subaru out of our bay, we added a complimentary Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security water bottle and a VIP hanger.
We taught our client how to use their new remote starter, and answered any questions they might have.
