FAQ

My vehicle will not start when I use the key.
If your vehicle will not start with the key, but the dash lights come on, your vehicle is probably locked on the CompuSTAR remote. Make sure that you are using your CompuSTAR remote to unlock the vehicle, not your factory fob.

My vehicle will not “auto start” via remote.

If your vehicle will not autostart, however it will lock and unlock on the CompuSTAR remote, your vehicle is most likely in VALET mode. You can tell on LCD remotes if it’s in valet mode because ZZZZ’s will appear above your vehicle, as if your vehicle were sleeping. Valet mode can be caused by your car battery dying/getting replaced, or simply not using your remote for a few months(ie; summertime). Look on the back of your remote, there is a table of codes for your remote, one of which is valet mode. On LCD remotes you can put your car in/out of valet mode by tapping buttons 1 and 3 at the same time for half a second. On 1-way remotes it’s typically tapping the 2 buttons on the left side for half a second.

My locks activate automatically after about 30 seconds.
Your remote has probably gone into PASSIVE arming mode. What that means is that the vehicle will automatically arm itself by locking the doors. On LCD remotes there will be a black bar on the remote near the top of the screen with the words ‘PASSIVE’ in it. You can check your table of codes on the back of the remote to get it out of passive mode, on LCD remotes you can do this by tapping buttons 2 and 3 at the same time for half a second. The remote should then beep and the PASSIVE bar should disappear.

My remote screen icons are missing (on 1-Way, LED not lit)
If your remote screen has lost all icons, and the battery meter is completely red, or on one way systems, there is no longer a flashing LED light, that could mean that your remote battery has died. LCD remotes take either a AA or AAA battery, and the one way units take flat watch batteries, size 2025 3.5V. You can replace your batteries and continue using your remotes, it’s a good rule of thumb to replace batteries about once every 6 months to ensure optimal functionality.

I have lost my remote or it is inactive and I cannot start my vehicle with the key.
If you happen to lose your remote when it is locked, and cannot start the vehicle with the key, you will need to ‘pop’ the remotes out of programming. To do this you put the key in the ignition of your vehicle and cycle it 5 times, which means you will turn the key to the ON position(without actually starting the engine) then back to off, then ON, repeating 5 full times. Once you do this you should hear a clicking under the dash and your autostart will be disabled and you’ll be able to start your vehicle with the key. If this is done by accident, please contact us to schedule an appointment to have it reconfigured.

I downloaded the Compustar® Drone app but my vehicle does not respond.
Drone® works by communicating with a device installed exclusively in Alaska by us. If you have a remote start system installed or would like to install a remote start system, Drone® allows you to control many of your vehicle’s functions from the convenience of an app on your smartphone. You no longer need to carry a fob around with you. Ask an associate today about how you can have the Drone® receiver installed in your vehicle.
