Product Spotlight: Hertz HMX 6.5 Marine Speakers

06/13/2017 By BestCarAudio.com

Hertz HMX 6.5Hertz is proud to introduce a new line of marine and powersports products to their family of premium mobile electronic solutions. Four new amplifiers, seven new speakers and a subwoofer will provide marine and off-road enthusiasts with the same impressive performance that has made Hertz speakers, amplifiers and subwoofers a revered name in cars and trucks for decades. In this product spotlight, we take a closer look at the HMX 6.5 marine and powersport series coaxial speaker products.

HMX 6.5 Design Features

Hertz HMX 6.5The HMX 6.5 is a 6.5-inch coaxially mounted component speaker system. The system uses a polypropylene woofer cone that has been co-molded to a Santoprene rubber surround. The motor and suspension of the woofer feature a 1-inch voice coil that is centered by an aramid fiber spider. The voice coil is vented to help control heat and pressure build-up under the dust cap. Hertz has optimized the suspension for infinite-baffle applications. Silicone-encased tinsel leads offer excellent durability and reliability.

Hertz has provided an over-sized magnet for the woofer for topnotch efficiency. A marine-grade polymer injected basket encases the motor assembly for protection from the elements. There are no protrusions from the basket that could cause life jackets or fishing rods to get hung up as they are pulled past the rear of the speaker.

The speaker has a mounting depth of 3.76 inches. A soft rubber gasket on the back of the mounting flange ensures a tight seal against the boat hull to prevent leaks.

Hertz HMX 6.5The 1.4-inch tweeter PEI dome tweeter is powered by a neodymium magnet and suspended above the woofer in the grille. An acoustically transparent stainless steel mesh insert protects the tweeter from physical damage.

An acoustic lens is incorporated into the tweeter mount to increase off-axis performance. This lens helps to ensure that every seating position has great sound, even if the speakers are mounted down low in the boat. Hertz has integrated a passive crossover network into the side of the speaker chassis. The crossover system includes solid-state tweeter protection circuitry.

Speaker Specifications

Hertz HMX 6.5Hertz rates the HMX 6.5 series of speakers as having a continuous power handling capability of 75 watts, with a 150-watt peak power rating. Each driver has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, so they are compatible with every source unit and amplifier on the market. An efficiency rating of 90dB ensures that every watt of power sent to the speaker is used efficiently.

Nature Proof Design

Hertz calls their environment design features Nature-proof. The cone, surround, chassis and grille are all made from UV-, salt-, fog- and thermal-shock–resistant marine-grade polymer materials. The design is water- and dust-resistant so it can be used in any outdoor application. The speaker terminals are gold-plated to improve the system’s overall corrosion-resistance characteristics.

Four Options for Any Application

Hertz HMX 6.5Your choice of white or black HMX 6.5 speakers is also available to be purchased with integrated RGB LED lighting. With the LED option, the optional HM RGB 1 BK wireless LED lighting controller can be purchased to further enhance your experience. The wireless control included with the HM RGB 1 BK uses radio frequency communication to allow the user to select from 256 different red, green and blue intensities. The range on the remote is specified as 65 feet.

The HM RGB 1 BK Controller includes options for color-changing patterns. It also has a built-in microphone and 3.5 mm aux input. The controller can change the lighting to the beat and tempo of your music, if you wish.

Hertz HMX 6.5 Series Speakers

As we mentioned, the HMX 6.5 series speakers are just part of the new family of marine and powersports products from Hertz. The line includes marine and powersports trim 8-inch coaxial speakers (only the black version will have the optional LED lighting) and a 10-inch subwoofer in the marine series. Two series of amplifiers round out the offerings – a four-channel and a monoblock in the compact HMP series and a four-channel and two-channel amp in the HCP series.

If your boat, ATV, motorcycle, motorhome or race trailer needs amazing sound, then look into the new marine and powersports offerings from Hertz. Your local authorized Hertz retailer can provide you with installation and pricing details.

Product Spotlight: Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3

05/04/2017 By John Schwartz

Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3Here at Perfectionist Autosound and Security, we offer some of the best products on the market today to meet the needs of our clients. We are proud to be a dealer for Hertz Car Audio – and among their best speakers for sound quality enthusiasts are the Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3 – 6 ½” 2 way speakers.

Introducing the Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3

At first glance, you can tell this speaker is special. It looks as smooth as it sounds with the concentric-mounted tweeter, pressed pulp and cotton cone, and boundary-free pure butyl rubber surround. There isn’t a speaker on the market that looks this clean from the front – and the rest of the speaker is built just as well. The aluminum alloy basket has a similarly clean look and the oversized ferrite magnet is covered with an anti-vibration rubber cover. Every component of this speaker speaks to the best-quality materials and well-designed construction.

Sounds as Good as it Looks

Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3Great looks are one thing – but how does it sound? With the concentric-mounted Tetolon Fiber dome tweeter and a powerful neodymium magnet, the smooth highs have the same point source as the mids for a perfectly aligned response. The “boundary free” rubber surround allows greater cone excursion for more cone movement and a better midbass response. The speaker is dampened with an anti-vibration cover to ensure a smooth sound.

Every upgraded component of this speaker adds up to improved and more-detailed sound quality. You will clearly hear details that lesser speakers just won’t reproduce. The high-quality materials do what they should: They get out of the way and allow the music to shine through with all the details.

Handles Plenty of Power

These speakers handle 100 watts continuous and 200 watts peak to keep up with any sound quality system and a good-quality sub. They are rated to play down to 45 Hz and will work very well as the only speakers in your system.

Come on by Perfectionist Autosound and Security to hear the Hertz Mille Pro MPX 165.3 for yourself or click here for more information.

Dramatic Sound Quality Improvements By Upgrading Speakers

08/05/2016 By John Schwartz

Sound Quality ImprovementsClients bring their vehicles to Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security for sound quality improvements to their car audio systems. One way that we can achieve this is by upgrading your speakers. Perfectionist carries premiere brands like Audiofrog, Morel, Hertz, Audison and Pioneer. Let’s look at why speakers are one of the most important components of your mobile entertainment system.

Better Than Stock

Automakers design the speakers they use in their vehicles to meet a specific price point. In most cases, this price is about the same as what you would pay for a fast food lunch, without the upsized fries and drink. You can imagine that this limited budget also limits the performance of the speakers. You could have the best electronics in the world, but if your speakers can’t convert the signal coming from your amplifier into great sound, then the whole system suffers.

Higher Output

Sound Quality ImprovementsOne of the many benefits of aftermarket speakers is the ability for the speaker cones to move farther, which consequently allows them to play louder. Cone excursion becomes especially important when you want to add an amplifier to your system to allow it to play louder. Another speaker upgrade benefit is power handling. Aftermarket speakers are designed to dissipate heat better, so they last longer. Power handling and speaker cone excursion work hand-in-hand to create more output.

Less Distortion

Sound Quality ImprovementsTruly premium car audio speakers – like the Audiofrog GB series and Morel Supremo and Titanium – offer dramatically reduced distortion levels compared to entry- or mid-level speakers. The use of mechanically and electrically balanced motor structures and premium cone materials result in clearer, more detailed sound. These speakers don’t change their sound as you turn up the volume – the music is effortless and dynamic, even at concert-level volumes. Premium speakers recreate even the most minute details with amazing clarity. When you get used to speakers like these, it’s hard to go back to “normal” speakers.

We Make Good Sound Better

Proper speaker installation is key to getting maximum performance. Our team of expertly trained technicians knows how to get the most from any speaker we install. From a basic OEM replacement coaxial to two- and three-way component sets worth thousands of dollars, we install each and every speaker securely and reliably in a location that maximizes cosmetic integration and overall system performance. We can also create custom mounting locations in the doors or on the dash for even more performance.

Stop By To Talk About Sound Quality Improvements In Your Vehicle

If you are in the Anchorage, Alaska, area, drop into Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security. We would be happy to let you listen to any of the more than a dozen sets of speakers we have on display in our showroom and our demo vehicles. Dodge Ram Remote Starter Installation and Audio Upgrade

04/29/2016 By John Schwartz

Ram Remote StarterA client from Eagle River came to Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security with his 2014 Ram 1500, looking to upgrade the audio system and install a remote starter. Our team looked over the vehicle with him and listened as he explained his goals for the upgrades. We work on lots of Rams in our shop, and when we told him about our Ram package, he chose it instantly.

CarPlay Upgrade

Ram Remote Starter
The Pioneer radio gives the client the ability to play many audio sources as well as access to Apple CarPlay.

We began by replacing the factory radio in the dash with a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX unit that comes with Apple’s CarPlay software. When we introduced him to the benefits of CarPlay in our store, it became a must have for him. Our installers were able to integrate the factory-installed backup camera to show up on the big Pioneer display, which was a plus.

Pioneer Amplifiers

Ram Remote Starter
This Ram truck sounds as good as it looks, thanks to our audio upgrades!

We added two Pioneer amplifiers to the vehicle and installed them in hidden locations – a GM-D9601 that powers the subwoofers and a GM-D8604 to power the front and rear speakers. This combination gave the client over 1,000 watts of clean power, so when he wants to jam, he has all the power he needs.

Audison Front Speakers

For front speakers, we chose the Audison APK165 6.5” component set, installing the woofer in the front doors and the tweeters in the factory locations in the dash.

Hertz Rear Speakers

In the rear doors, we installed a set of Hertz ECX130.4 5.25” coaxial speakers. In our usual Perfectionist fashion, we installed all of the speakers on custom composite speaker adapters and soldered and heat-shrank all connections.

Custom Subwoofer Enclosure

Ram Remote Starter
The custom accents on the subwoofer enclosure really highlight this installation.

When it came time for bass, we went back to Hertz, choosing a pair of 10” ES250.5 subwoofers in an enclosure that fits perfectly underneath the back seat. Our team created a fiberglass mold for Ram trucks to let us make the fiberglass enclosure outside the vehicle, keeping the smell down and improving the finished product. We covered the enclosure in matching carpet with custom vinyl inserts for a classy touch.

Two-Way Ram Remote Starter

Ram Remote Starter
Regardless of the temperature, the client will always have a warm vehicle to get into, thanks to his remote starter.

You know every vehicle we touch needs a remote start. In this case, we installed a Compustar RF2W-G9 two-way system with up to 3,000 feet of range. Now the client will always know if his doors are locked or if the vehicle has remote started.

Anchorage Client Gets Stunning 2003 Corvette Audio Upgrade

09/15/2015 By John Schwartz

Corvette Audio

A new client from Anchorage, Alaska, came to Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security looking for a  2003 Chevy Corvette audio upgrade.  Our team sat down with him and discussed his goals for the project. We went out to the vehicle and looked it over together, exploring ideas as we focused on different areas of the vehicle. When we came back inside, we asked him several questions to get him thinking about all of the possibilities for the Corvette. Once we had gathered all of our information, we worked up a solution that we felt best fit his needs. He liked our idea, so we set an installation appointment.

Big Tech Upgrade With Pioneer Radio

Corvette Audio
The Pioneer motorized radio was chosen to allow the client numerous technology upgrades while still affording him the option to return the car to stock.

It was decided early on that we would not do any major modifications to the vehicle that could not be reversed at a later date, so we chose a Pioneer AVHX-7700BT motorized touchscreen unit for the dash. The client gained a laundry list of new technologies and features, including Bluetooth for hands-free calling and music streaming, and USB control of his digital music and an iPod or iPhone. The Pioneer unit comes with a high-quality preamp, so it will deliver a great-sounding signal downstream to the rest of the electronics we installed in the vehicle.

Hertz Speakers Replace Lifeless Sounding Factory Bose

Corvette Audio
Custom adapter plates were fabricated to mount the Hertz midrange speakers in the factory location.

In the front doors, we removed the existing Bose Audio speakers and installed a set of Hertz HSK165.4 components. That included 6.5” woofers that we installed in custom, composite speaker plates designed to bolt right back into the stock mounting holes. They also come with a 1” tweeter that we installed into the stock tweeter locations, again using custom mounts and stock mounting points. In doing this, we kept the front door panels looking completely stock, with a set of great-sounding speakers hidden behind them befitting a performance vehicle like a Corvette.

Custom Subwoofer Enclosure For Hertz Subwoofers Adds Class And Great Low End Output

Corvette Audio
With the enclosure formed and smoothed, it is time to and the icing to the cake. In this case it will be a insert trim panel with the Perfectionist logo.
Corvette Audio
Our fabrication team was able to wrap the enclosure in one piece of vinyl. Once wrapped the enclosure goes back in the car for one last test fit.
Corvette Audio
Even the rear of the enclosure was finished with a high level of detail.
Corvette Audio
Little details like this accent panel really help set this installation apart!
Corvette Audio
The final piece of the puzzle were trim rings around the woofers. They conceal the mounting hardware for a much cleaner look. The trim rings were covered in a carbon fiber vinyl.
Corvette Audio
The result of all our hard work is a beautiful hatch area that not only looks and sounds amazing, but also leaves some storage room.

In the rear of the vehicle, we decided that we would show off some beautiful fiberglass and woodworking, yet keep the system completely removable, should the client ever choose. We installed two Hertz HX250 10” subwoofers in sealed enclosures, with the speakers aimed toward the rear of the car. Our team modeled the enclosures to fit the theme of the flowing lines in the interior, and we covered the enclosure in a beautiful black vinyl that matched well with the interior panels. We used carbon fiber trim around the outside of the subwoofers and the Perfectionist logo between the subs, adding another layer of class to an already beautiful install.

Hertz Amplifiers Provide Plenty Of Clean Power

Corvette Audio
The amplifiers and processor were mounted in the rear floor trunk, leaving plenty of usable space in the hatch area.
Corvette Audio
Our team added a mesh insert to the opening for the amplifiers. This increases the ventilation for the amplifiers and allows for viewing.
Corvette Audio
LED lighting was added to the amplifier area to highlight the build at night.

Now it was time to choose the power for the system and, again, we went back to Hertz. We chose their HDP4 and HDP1 amplifiers from their Digital Power series. We like these amplifiers for their combination of small footprint, great output, high fidelity and low current draw. It is a winning combination. The HDP1 supplies well over 1,000 watts of clean power to the subwoofers, and the HDP4 sends more than 150 watts to each woofer and tweeter in the front stage.

As you can see in the pictures, the fabricators at Perfectionist used the well in the rear of the Corvette to house the amplifiers and the processor. We made a custom floor with a grille insert to highlight the equipment, and we finished it off with LED accent lighting.

Precise Tuning Made Possible With Audison Processor

It is the opinion of Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security that, if you are going to build a great-sounding car audio system, you should have a processor as a piece of the puzzle. In this build, we chose an Audison Bit10D, which is one of our personal favorites. In the hands of a skilled tuner, the Audison processor can take a good-sounding system and make it sound incredible. It allows individual control over the output level, equalization, crossover points and time delay for each and every speaker in the audio system.

The end result has to be heard in person to truly understand the improvement it makes in sound quality. When you fire up this system, the sound is no longer biased to the driver’s door, but rather, it stages beautifully across the dash as if you were sitting in the perfect seat at a live concert. And the quality of the music is as good as it gets, since we can fine-tune each and every speaker with 31 different bands of equalization.

We believe that you should get all of the sound quality that you paid for, so our attention to detail also encompasses the fine-tuning of equipment before it is released from our shop. Most retailers will fire up the equipment, make a few adjustments and send it on its way. It is our experience that the extra time we spend on fine-tuning each piece of audio equipment can be a night-and-day difference in the final sound quality. It is just another way we strive for Perfection in all that we do.

Audison DRC Allows For Fingertip Control Of The System

Corvette Audio
The Audison DRC was mounted on a custom plastic plate within easy reach of the client.

The good news for the client is that controlling this couldn’t be easier. It comes with a small controller called a DRC that we installed on a custom mount in the ashtray location, under the Pioneer stereo system. It gives the client a large volume knob to control the volume and subwoofer level, and it lets him choose between two different preset curves we program for different kinds of music, listening levels, etc.

We Go To Great Lengths To Protect Your Vehicle While It Is In Our Care

Corvette Audio
Every car that Perfectionist works on is painstakingly protected before any work on the vehicle begins.

Here at Perfectionist, we take our name seriously, so the care we give to a vehicle while it’s in our possession is legendary. We use protective tape on any paint or trim panels where we may be in contact, and go to extreme measures to ensure your vehicle is delivered back to you in the same condition as we received it.

In the end, where the rubber meets the road is when the client comes to pick up the vehicle. Will he like the sound? How about the installation? The good news is that this client loved it. He never imagined the sound would be that good – like a studio on wheels. And the fit and finish of the installation made him all smiles. That made our day.

When you are in the market for an audio upgrade for your vehicle, we invite you to stop by Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security. One of our award-winning team members will work with you to design and build an audio system that meets your unique needs. Let us show you why we are a multi-year winner of the Top Mobile Electronics Retailer recognition in the Nation by Mobile Electronics magazine.
