Product Spotlight: Audison Prima Amplifiers

05/12/2017 By John Schwartz

Audison Prima AmplifiersHere at Perfectionist Autosound and Security in Anchorage we are proud to be dealers for the Audison line of car audio products. They build some of the finest quality autosound components on the market today including their line of high end bit processors and the Audison Prima Amplifiers.

Audison Prima Amplifiers

Audison Prima AmplifiersAudison offers several lines of amplifiers and the Prima line is optimized for integration into OEM systems, with built in Bit processing to give you a lot of flexibility when adding onto more complex factory systems – or any head unit of your choice. Many OEM systems will use built in crossovers and equalization optimized for the factory speakers and locations. When you decide to do upgrades, even if you are keeping the factory head unit, these signals need to be restored and processed through the Bit system that Audison has built into the Prima amplifiers. The Bit system connects to a Windows based platform to access the features of the 32 bit, 147 MHz processor with a sophisticated 24 bit digital processor. All of this comes in a line of compact amplifiers that will not take up much space and give you a lot of options to find a location to mount.

It has flexible inputs

Even if the factory head unit has separate outputs for different amplifiers and frequency ranges the processor will take it all in. The analog signal is converted to a digital signal for processing – and then the processed signal is converted back into an analog signal to be amplified and sent on to whatever speaker set-up you have. It can even take separate signals for subs, mids, and highs – and sum it all together for a single full-range output. Built in factory equalization can be restored to a flat signal with the de-equalization feature built into the Prima amplifiers.

It has flexible outputs

Once you have converted and restored the signal the Prima amplifier takes it to the next level with individually adjustable channels, controls for parametric equalization, and 68 built in crossover points with adjustable slopes and signal delay. Audison has engineered everything with a logical and orderly set-up and it even includes a set up disc to dial the system in for the very best quality sound.

Several power configurations

The Audison Prima Amplifier line has 5 amplifiers for all the system design flexibility that you could ever ask for. They are available in eight channel, five channel, and four channel versions with built in Bit processors – and a four channel or a mono sub amplifier for additional flexibility.

Come on by Perfectionist Autosound and Security to see the entire line of Audison Prima Amplifiers and let our experts show you what will work for you – or click HERE for more information.

Product Spotlight: Audison AP8.9 bit

04/11/2017 By BestCarAudio.com

Audison AP8.9 bitAudison is one of the industry leaders in mobile electronic product innovation and performance. One of their unique products is the Audison AP8.9 bit amplifier. This amplifier features eight channels of power as well as a powerful integrated digital signal processor (DSP). The onboard processing makes vehicle integration and system tuning easy. Let’s delve deeper into the features of this compact and powerful amplifier.

Platform and Connections

Audison AP8.9 bitA key feature of the AP8.9 bit is its overall size. The amp is only 7.8 inches long, 5.27 inches wide and 1.8 inches thick. The chassis is small enough to fit in the dash of many vehicles or beside a factory amplifier in the trunk or hatch. All of the connections to the amplifier are made along one side of the amp thanks to compact quick-connects for signal input and output. There are only two controls on the amplifier chassis. A switch puts the amp into upgrade mode for software updates, and an eight-position rotary control allows for selecting preset system configurations. The advanced manual offers details on these preset configurations.

The provided input harness accepts speaker-level connections from factory or aftermarket head units. Audison has optional two- and six-channel RCA harnesses for connecting to aftermarket head units. An optional speaker load module, called the ASP, is available for all vehicles that need to “see” a load impedance at the factory amplifier during the start-up sequence. The unit will accept input signals from 2 to 15 volts RMS and has automatic turn-on detection circuitry. Audison includes a TOSLINK optical input for signals from digital sources such as the Audison bit DMI MOST integration module.

The AP8.9 bit features eight amplified output channels, each rated to produce up to 35 watts of power into 4 ohms or 65 watts into 2 ohms. When bridged, each pair of channels can provide up to 130 watts into a 4 ohm load. A ninth channel is available on an RCA output to send to a dedicated subwoofer amplifier like the AP 1D.

Signal Processing Features

Audison AP8.9 bitA Configuration Wizard within the provided Windows-based software helps make the setup of the amp quick and easy. Audison includes nine input signal configurations, including three-way front stages, center channels, rear speakers and stereo subwoofer inputs.

To configure the signal path through the amp, Audison provides similar preset selections, including provisions for the use of passively filtered channels. You can let the unit set up basic crossover points for you, or go in and fine-tune them yourself. Crossover options include high-, low- and band-pass filters with the option of Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley filter models. You can select crossover points and filter slope as well. Signal delay can be set by measured distances or in milliseconds. Each output channel also has a 10-band parametric equalizer. Finally, you have output level adjustments for each channel that are adjustable in 0.5 dB steps.

The ability to power speakers actively negates the signal loss that occurs with passive crossovers. The result is a system that plays as loudly as amplifiers that produce 50 or 60 watts of power.

Audison AP8.9 bit Tuning Power

Audison AP8.9 bitThe AP8.9 bit is compatible with the Audison bit Tune processor. Many Audison dealers have invested in this acoustic analyzer processor to accelerate the system tuning process. The bit Tune takes a left- and a right-channel measurement of both frequency and phase at different locations around the microphone position. It can then process the information and provide a configuration directly into the AP8.9 bit. Equalization, signal delay, and output level control are all set automatically.

Options

Audison AP8.9 bitTo provide control over preset selection, master volume (if desired) and subwoofer level control, the Audison DRC (Digital Remote Control) is compatible with the AP8.9 bit. The DRC can manually power the AP 8.9bit on or off, select different signal inputs options, preset tunes and control the system balance/fader. Audison also offers an amplifier-stacking kit called the APTK 3, to allow your installer to mount the AP8.9 bit on top of an AP 1D, or any of the Prima series amplifiers, up to a maximum of three amplifiers.

Applications for the AP8.9 bit are seemingly endless. Vehicles with difficult or impossible-to-replace head units or needing a replacement for a damaged factory amplifier are common applications. The system integration features of the AP8.9 bit, combined with flexible tuning functions, allow your installer to build an amazingly accurate and life-like audio system.

When it is time to upgrade your audio system, visit your local authorized Audison dealer to experience the AP8.9 bit for yourself.

Design

The SR 5 is a single-chassis five-channel amplifier rated to produce 55 watts per channel from the four main channels and 185 watts from the subwoofer channel when loaded to four ohms. When the load is two ohms, power output increases to 70 and 260 watts respectively. The amplifier features high-pass crossovers for the front channels and high- or band-pass crossovers for the rear channels. The subwoofer channel includes a variable low-pass crossover, and the output level can be adjusted remotely with an optional Audison VCRA remote control.

Physical Characteristics

Audison SR 5-1The chassis of the SR 5 is formed out of dense aluminum for maximum heat dissipation. The amp measures 19 11/16 inches long and is 8 7/16 inches deep and only 2 1/8 inches tall. All of the connections are made along the bottom edge of the amplifier, including RCA and speaker-level inputs, power connections, and speaker outputs. The controls for the amplifier are just above the connections and are protected by a removable cover. This cover gives the amp a clean look once it’s installed and tuned.

Dramatic Sound Quality Improvements By Upgrading Speakers

08/05/2016 By John Schwartz

Sound Quality ImprovementsClients bring their vehicles to Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security for sound quality improvements to their car audio systems. One way that we can achieve this is by upgrading your speakers. Perfectionist carries premiere brands like Audiofrog, Morel, Hertz, Audison and Pioneer. Let’s look at why speakers are one of the most important components of your mobile entertainment system.

Better Than Stock

Automakers design the speakers they use in their vehicles to meet a specific price point. In most cases, this price is about the same as what you would pay for a fast food lunch, without the upsized fries and drink. You can imagine that this limited budget also limits the performance of the speakers. You could have the best electronics in the world, but if your speakers can’t convert the signal coming from your amplifier into great sound, then the whole system suffers.

Higher Output

Sound Quality ImprovementsOne of the many benefits of aftermarket speakers is the ability for the speaker cones to move farther, which consequently allows them to play louder. Cone excursion becomes especially important when you want to add an amplifier to your system to allow it to play louder. Another speaker upgrade benefit is power handling. Aftermarket speakers are designed to dissipate heat better, so they last longer. Power handling and speaker cone excursion work hand-in-hand to create more output.

Less Distortion

Sound Quality ImprovementsTruly premium car audio speakers – like the Audiofrog GB series and Morel Supremo and Titanium – offer dramatically reduced distortion levels compared to entry- or mid-level speakers. The use of mechanically and electrically balanced motor structures and premium cone materials result in clearer, more detailed sound. These speakers don’t change their sound as you turn up the volume – the music is effortless and dynamic, even at concert-level volumes. Premium speakers recreate even the most minute details with amazing clarity. When you get used to speakers like these, it’s hard to go back to “normal” speakers.

We Make Good Sound Better

Proper speaker installation is key to getting maximum performance. Our team of expertly trained technicians knows how to get the most from any speaker we install. From a basic OEM replacement coaxial to two- and three-way component sets worth thousands of dollars, we install each and every speaker securely and reliably in a location that maximizes cosmetic integration and overall system performance. We can also create custom mounting locations in the doors or on the dash for even more performance.

Stop By To Talk About Sound Quality Improvements In Your Vehicle

If you are in the Anchorage, Alaska, area, drop into Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security. We would be happy to let you listen to any of the more than a dozen sets of speakers we have on display in our showroom and our demo vehicles. Dodge Ram Remote Starter Installation and Audio Upgrade

04/29/2016 By John Schwartz

Ram Remote StarterA client from Eagle River came to Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security with his 2014 Ram 1500, looking to upgrade the audio system and install a remote starter. Our team looked over the vehicle with him and listened as he explained his goals for the upgrades. We work on lots of Rams in our shop, and when we told him about our Ram package, he chose it instantly.

CarPlay Upgrade

Ram Remote Starter
The Pioneer radio gives the client the ability to play many audio sources as well as access to Apple CarPlay.

We began by replacing the factory radio in the dash with a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX unit that comes with Apple’s CarPlay software. When we introduced him to the benefits of CarPlay in our store, it became a must have for him. Our installers were able to integrate the factory-installed backup camera to show up on the big Pioneer display, which was a plus.

Pioneer Amplifiers

Ram Remote Starter
This Ram truck sounds as good as it looks, thanks to our audio upgrades!

We added two Pioneer amplifiers to the vehicle and installed them in hidden locations – a GM-D9601 that powers the subwoofers and a GM-D8604 to power the front and rear speakers. This combination gave the client over 1,000 watts of clean power, so when he wants to jam, he has all the power he needs.

Audison Front Speakers

For front speakers, we chose the Audison APK165 6.5” component set, installing the woofer in the front doors and the tweeters in the factory locations in the dash.

Hertz Rear Speakers

In the rear doors, we installed a set of Hertz ECX130.4 5.25” coaxial speakers. In our usual Perfectionist fashion, we installed all of the speakers on custom composite speaker adapters and soldered and heat-shrank all connections.

Custom Subwoofer Enclosure

Ram Remote Starter
The custom accents on the subwoofer enclosure really highlight this installation.

When it came time for bass, we went back to Hertz, choosing a pair of 10” ES250.5 subwoofers in an enclosure that fits perfectly underneath the back seat. Our team created a fiberglass mold for Ram trucks to let us make the fiberglass enclosure outside the vehicle, keeping the smell down and improving the finished product. We covered the enclosure in matching carpet with custom vinyl inserts for a classy touch.

Two-Way Ram Remote Starter

Ram Remote Starter
Regardless of the temperature, the client will always have a warm vehicle to get into, thanks to his remote starter.

You know every vehicle we touch needs a remote start. In this case, we installed a Compustar RF2W-G9 two-way system with up to 3,000 feet of range. Now the client will always know if his doors are locked or if the vehicle has remote started.
