Anchorage Dealership Gets C-Force 800EPS Lighting Upgrade

06/08/2016 By John Schwartz

C-Force 800EPS LightingPerfectionist Auto Sound & Security is honored to be trusted by many dealers around Anchorage with outfitting vehicles they sell to their clients. One such dealer is Marita Sea and Ski. They contacted us recently about doing a 2015 C-Force 800EPS lighting upgrade. After spending time with them to understand their goals for the upgrades, we worked up a proposal for the vehicle that they liked, so we scheduled a time to work on the ATV.

Lighting Upgrades Necessary In The Alaskan Darkness

As you already know, in Alaska, it gets dark. Really dark. At certain times of the year, we experience much longer periods of darkness compared to other places. What that means to Alaska residents is they want great lighting on their vehicles. If you have ever driven an ATV at night, you already know the lighting is subpar at best.

Headlight Upgrade

C-Force 800EPS Lighting
We upgraded the headlights and the associated wiring for more output.

What we like to do is maximize the performance of the stock lighting and then add auxiliary lighting until the client is satisfied. In this C-Force, we replaced the weak, yellowish-looking incandescent headlight bulbs with our TurnAgain H4 HID system. The bulbs fit into the stock headlight housings, and then we securely mounted the 25 watt digital ballasts in a secure location. We use the 25 watt models on most ATVs, based on their limited charging capability, and these ballasts work perfectly on this model.

We used a relay harness so the ballasts now draw their power directly from the battery and not the lighting harness. Doing this ensures that the lighting gets all the current it needs and extends the life expectancy of the product. We properly loomed and securely mounted all of our wiring to allow for easy servicing in the future, and soldered all of our connections and covered in heat-shrink for durability.

Dual Vision X Light Bars

C-Force 800EPS Lighting
The Vision X dual light bars help to augment the headlight output.

Once the headlights were working at maximum output, we added a pair of Vision X XiL-EP220 5” light bars. These are LED-based lights that only draw 1.67 amps of current each, meaning they won’t overload the charging system – but, boy, do they have lots of output. The included 10 watt LEDs along with the precision optics make for an incredible improvement in nighttime visibility. We mounted the lights securely to the front metal rack and installed a handlebar-mounted switch near the headlight switch, giving the rider easy control over the new lighting.

Matching Running Lights

Our lighting package complete, this ATV now has greatly enhanced night safety.

For a finishing touch, we replaced the existing running light bulbs with new LED models that gave the rider a brighter, whiter light, keeping with the theme of the other upgrades.

Vehicle Lighting Technologies

12/28/2015 By John Schwartz

Lighting TechnologiesOne of our many areas of expertise here at Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security is vehicle lighting upgrades. With our region’s long winter nights, being able to see clearly and safely at this time of year is crucial. This article looks at the difference between HID, LED and conventional Incandescent lighting technologies, including their benefits and limitations.

Incandescent Lighting Technologies

Lighting TechnologiesIn most vehicles sold today, the lighting is based on incandescent light bulbs. This type of bulb typically has a high-temperature tungsten filament that glows white-hot when an electric current passes through it. Incandescent lighting has been optimized over the years by the inclusion of different gases in the glass bulb to improve clarity and longevity. The most popular types use halogen gasses like iodine or bromine to produce a brighter, whiter light. Incandescent bulbs are very reasonably priced because of their popularity and relative simplicity to manufacture. Most incandescent bulbs typically last between 450 and 1,000 hours.

LED Lighting

Lighting TechnologiesRelatively new to the automotive industry are LED lights. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LED lights achieve full light output almost instantly – there is no waiting for them to warm up. LED lights are very efficient, producing relatively little heat for a given amount of light output. Because no glass bulbs are involved, LED lights are extremely rugged. We offer many different styles of Vision X LED lights – from light bars to the amazing Light Cannon products that can illuminate objects or roadways up to 3,280 feet away. LED lights are only available in two “colors” – warm or cool. Warm has a yellow tint while cool is closer to the blue end of the white light spectrum. Some Vision X lights have optional colored covers that change the output to orange, red or blue. LED lights last about 50,000 hours.

HID Lighting

Lighting TechnologiesThe most popular lighting upgrade is a set of High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lights. HID lights use a high-voltage power supply (called a ballast) to produce an arc of electricity between two electrodes in a bulb. The light you see is essentially a controlled spark. HID systems are among the brightest in the industry and, when combined with a proper projector assembly, can provide three to four times as much light output as halogen lights. HID light kits are available in 35 or 55 watt systems, depending on the application.

By altering the mixture of gases in the bulb, an HID system can produce different-colored lighting. These colors are described using the Kelvin color temperature scale. Lower-number colors produce a yellower light, while higher numbers are on the blue end of the spectrum. The brightness of the light is inversely proportional to the color, so a low number can put out more lumens of light compared to something in the extreme blue range. We have seven colors available in many different bulb styles.

HID bulbs take a few seconds to ignite and produce their full light output, so some people do not use them for standalone high beam applications. Our Turn Again HID bulbs last 3,500-4,000 hours and the kit components feature a lifetime warranty.

Our client purchased our Vision X 7″ Vortex LED headlight assembly kit for her 2015 Jeep Wrangler. We also added basic LED bulbs to the foglights. A few weeks later, she returned and we replaced the bulbs with matching foglight assemblies, using a Vision X XIL-OE13JKXOPRH vehicle-specific kit, because she wanted the LEDs to match for cosmetic reasons.

Lighting is a specialty of ours. Visit Perfectionist for your lighting solution today!  You can also Contact Us here.
