History of Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security

03/17/2017 By John Schwartz

History of PerfectionistFollow along as we share some of the unique history of Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security.  We have been around for quite some time, but the store you see today is nothing like what you would have seen 20 years ago. Over the last several years, we’ve learned a lot from the good times and the hard times, and grown even more.

Way Back When …

John Schwartz, the current owner of our store, has worked for Perfectionist for the past 18 years and has been the owner since 2008. He grew up in North Carolina “where bass was invented.” When he was 14 years old, he worked at a sandwich joint next door to a stereo shop. One day, a guy pulled up in his car with his bass booming so loud that the windows shook. John had never heard anything like it. That day, he decided that he wanted to work on cars, and specifically learn all about stereo systems. The next day, he walked in the stereo shop and begged for a job. They offered to let him come around and help out with cleaning and sweeping. But over time, John learned quite a bit about car audio and electronics.

When John was 16 years old, he moved to Alaska, where right away he was considered the “stereo guy.” During his high school years, he even opened up a shop called the Sound Doctor in his mom’s yard. It was common to see three or four cars in their driveway at a time, having their radios and sound systems worked on. Then at the age of 18, he was hired at the biggest shop in town, called Safe and Sound, where he grew his knowledge and skills even more. He worked there until he got a job with Compustar in September of 1999.

A New Beginning for Perfectionist

At one point, our shop was called Perfectionist Car Care. We did everything from car detailing to running a limousine service. However, there wasn’t much vision for the business and it showed through. At that time, it was owned by Jason Lee, the founder of Compustar. With Compustar growing so rapidly, Perfectionist was in the backseat. John Schwartz joined the Compustar team in ’99 as head technician. Shortly after, Jason sent John over to Perfectionist to check things out and see – in a sense, spy on the employees – what was going on in their store. What he found wasn’t very good. Things were constantly being broken and inventory was being stolen, among other problems.

John and Jason met up for dinner and began talking about Perfectionist and where it was headed. It didn’t look like the store was going to make it much longer. That day, Jason decided to fire all of the employees and hand the store over to John. This was the beginning of a new chapter for Perfectionist.

Learning Through Experience is the History of Perfectionist

History of PerfectionistJohn, a 23-year-old with no business experience, was now running a store. It didn’t take long for him to realize what needed to change to see this business have more success. Over the next 10 years, he built up his team and made a new name for himself. He put a lot of effort into making sure each client was treated with excellent care every time they stopped by our shop. This was a new thing for Perfectionist, but over time, our town realized we had really stepped up our game.

There were a lot of headaches and lessons learned in those first years. It took time to hire a team that carried the same vision for Perfectionist that John did. Through a lot of trial and error, a great team was developed and our name began to grow.

Exponential Growth and Celebrating Goals Met

Now called Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security, we put our focus on three main things: car audio, remote starters and lighting. We decided to stick with what we were good at, and it’s definitely paid off.

We eventually began to outgrow the location we were in, so when the landowner offered us the lot across the street, we couldn’t resist the offer. We began the building of the 6,000-square-foot shop that we have today. On October 6, 2006, we celebrated moving into the shop we used to dream of, which had now become a reality.

Things were going better than we could have ever imagined until the economy crashed in 2009. This may have been the hardest year Perfectionist had ever seen. The summer months dragged on and the credit cards were maxed out as a last resort. Thankfully, when winter rolled around again, there was also a turning of a page for our store and business began to pick back up.

The Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security You See Today

History of PerfectionistToday, Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security is one of the best-known car audio shops in the nation. Remaining humble and willing to learn from our mistakes has gotten us where we are today. We have received many incredible awards for our service and work. In 2011 and 2015, we were named Retailer of the Year, one of the most sought-after awards in our industry. We also won Top Retailer for Compustar this year and every year since 2005.

One of the biggest things we are known for now is our incredible service. Each and every client who comes in our store is greeted with a smile, given a tour of our facility and handed a Perfectionist water bottle. If we have the pleasure of working on your vehicle, we are always sure to give it back in better condition than we received it and you’ll even get a hand-written thank-you card in the mail from our team.

Marine Audio Is Best Left to the Experts!

03/18/2016 By John Schwartz

marine audioYour boat is a much harsher environment than your car for an audio system. Here at Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security, we are the experts in designing and installing a marine audio system that will perform flawlessly year after year. Nobody wants the hassle of a system that can’t hold up to the marine environment because it wasn’t designed for it or installed with such extreme conditions in mind. You just want to enjoy your time on the water and having your favorite tunes as a soundtrack for your day. We can make that happen!

Marine Grade Equipment Matters

marine audioNo matter what source unit you choose, it has to be built to withstand the heat, humidity and vibration that comes from being installed in a boat. Circuit boards have to be specially coated to protect the electronic components from corrosion, and everything needs to be shock-proof to withstand the impact of jumping the wake of another boat or running into some choppy water at full speed while zipping across the lake. We have units specially designed for your boat and offer you the options to play all of your favorite music during a long day on the water.

Designed With Boat Electrical Systems In Mind

marine audioIn addition to special coatings and being designed for bumps on the water, marine amplifiers have to have some of the most efficient designs available to make the most of the power and electrical system of your boat. We have these super-efficient amplifiers available to power any size system you may want.

Your speakers have to be designed with the same corrosion resistance as the electronics, and face it: They are going to get wet! Marine-grade speakers will take the splashing and keep on playing. We have the finest tower speakers, coax speakers and marine-grade subwoofers to make any boat rock. Keep in mind that you will be dealing with a lot more noise than in a car when you crank up your boat and dash across the water. We will design a system that can keep up! Whether you like the sounds of driving rock-and-roll or relaxing tunes to chill with, we can make both sound loud and clear.

A Very Different Kind Of Install

The most important part of your marine system is the installation. A boat doesn’t have the same type of interior as a car, so routing wires and hiding them can be much more of a challenge. We use stainless steel hardware, and solder and heat-shrink all connections to give you a system that will last for years to come. All of our fabrics, glues and plastics are all designed to handle the extreme conditions in the marine environment. Perfectionist never uses automotive-grade installation products on boats because they won’t last.

Your boat may not have come with factory locations for all of the speakers you may want installed. Special care must be taken to cut new speaker holes in fiberglass and make sure that they will withstand the vibrations of life on the water. Every component has to be mounted with hard pounding at high speed over rough waves in mind – not something to be left to amateurs.

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security the Best?

12/28/2015 By John Schwartz

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The BestDedication to our clients is one of the many things that has made Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security Mobile Electronics magazine’s 2015 Retailer of the Year. We take pride in ensuring that each and every person who walks through our door receives the products, services and attention to detail that they deserve. You may want to know what makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security the best. Let’s look at a few of the ways we make a Perfectionist client a client for life.

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The Best? It’s The Products

We have put a great deal of effort into choosing the products that we offer to our clients. We work closely with the manufacturers, distributors and sales representatives to ensure that we can provide much more than “just a product.“ After all, it is the service after the sale that differentiates us from everyone else. We offer lifetime warranties on many of the products that we sell, and will always stand behind our services.

In the unfortunate event that a product does not function correctly when we go to install it, we immediately replace it with one that does. If you had purchased the same product online, you’d have to send it back to the retailer, wait for it to be repaired, ship it back and pay for the installation again.

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The Best? It’s
The Service

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The BestOur staff are trained by the best, to be the best. We excel at customer service as well as in our sales, installation and fabrication skills. If you have had a product installed by us and have a question, we are always ready and willing to help. Just give us a call.

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The Best? It’s The Tools

What Makes Perfectionist Auto Sound & Security The BestWorking on modern vehicles is, frankly, getting more and more difficult. Our technicians have invested tens of thousands of dollars in tools and equipment to ensure we work on your car safely. We are not talking about screwdrivers and wrenches. We have test and calibration equipment for audio systems; dedicated interfaces for remote start and security system installations; and the latest templates, jigs and materials for efficient and reliable fabrication. There is no higher praise than to be able to tell an installer that something he added to your vehicle looks like it was supposed to be there.

We treat our repeat clients like family. We offer excellent pricing to both new and returning clients. We want to ensure that you feel completely comfortable leaving your personal or company vehicle with us. We treat each and every one of them as if they were our very own pride and joy.

Perfectionist Does it Again

08/19/2015 By Don Poynter

ROTY-2015

Perfectionist was humbled and honored in 2011 to be recognized as the #1 Retailer of the Year in America for our industry by a leading industry publication like Mobile Electronics Magazine. At the time, we were working hard to refine and upgrade every detail of our customer experience when industry colleagues nominated us for the list of top 50 retailers. With so many changes taking place and so much positive feedback, it seemed it was the perfect time to throw our hat into the ring at a chance at recognition for our growth. We knew it was a long shot but we figured taking big chances and going for the gold so to speak was what got us this far, so we might as well try, right?  We were blown away when our name was called at the awards banquet. Our industry had recognized us for being the best of the best and we couldn’t have been more proud or more in awe at the competition we were up against. We didn’t think it could get any better. It fueled and motivated us from that day to take the next steps to make things bigger and better.

Then on August 17, 2015…. that magic happened again. As we sat amongst colleagues, friends and mentors being honored for their accomplishments and contributions to the 12 Volt Industry… the drum roll swelled and when our name was called for that award… again… everything stopped. All I could think about was “did this really just happen again?” I thought about how my team pushes themselves every day to live up to my standards. I thought about how motivated and energized they are to be the best and how proud of them I am. How thankful I am for each and every person in my life, professionally and personally, from whom I have learned so many things and that have brought me to this point. I thought about how much I love being a part of an industry where innovation and craftsmanship can both be competitive, yet breed a brotherhood that is unbreakable.

I know I said thank you to so many that night. But in the event that I didn’t make it clear enough, thank you. Thank you to our customers for without you and your trust in us and your continued patronage and feedback we could not grow and learn the way we do. Thank you to my industry colleagues for motivating and inspiring. Thank you to my team. I know I push hard to always do better and I hope you know how much your dedication to this dream means to me.

Thank you,

JOHN SCHWARTZ  |  CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
