During the winter months at Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security, we do around 12 autostarts a day — sometimes even more — so when a customer came in with a 2017 Nissan Rogue, we were easily able to help him decide on a remote and guarantee a clean, reliable and professional install. After all, we service Nissans almost every single day.

This customer decided to go with the Prime G15, a remote with a range of half a mile, and the Compustar DroneMobile, the app for your smartphone that is able to start, stop, lock and unlock your vehicle with virtually unlimited range. The Prime G15 is a two-way remote, “two-way” meaning that he will be notified when the vehicle is started, locked or unlocked through an LED light, audible tone or LCD screen — and even through a push notification when he’s using the Compustar drone app.

The customer was smiling and happy when he picked up his Nissan Rogue, knowing that he could now enjoy a warm and cozy vehicle for the long winter months or enjoy a cool vehicle during our sweltering summers.

For more information about our remote starts, check out the remote start section of our website for the full rundown on all of the great remote start packages and features that we have available. Contact us here for more information, or better yet, just stop in and any one of us would be happy to help you.

2018 Audi Q8 Gets Smartphone-Controlled Long-Range Remote Start

In the midst of auto start season here in Anchorage, Alaska, we see customers come in every day with all types of vehicles. From Toyotas to BMWs, from the 1990s to 2020s, we see it all. It is always exciting, though, seeing a newer vehicle come in that not many installers have worked on. After consulting with a customer who has a 2018 Audi Q8 and talking about her specific needs and preferences, we decided on the Pro G15, a two-way remote with a range of 2 miles. “Two-way” meaning she will be notified when the vehicle is started, locked or unlocked through an LED light, audible tone or LCD screen — even through a push notification if she’s using the Compustar Drone.

We start every install with a check-in using an iPad, which includes taking photos of the exterior, checking the functions of the vehicle and performing a battery test. We then put a battery charger on the vehicle with a fender cover to protect the vehicle’s paint from any scratches. Our techs prep the install by soldering every connection; electrical-taping each connection; and then using JK Tapes, a cloth tape similar to the tape used in factory, to clean up the install. In this case, the installation took place in the trunk of the vehicle, rather than the driver’s-side dash.

Since this 2018 Audi Q8 is a push-to-start, it also goes to show how experienced our technicians are at installing auto starts, especially for European vehicles.

The next time you’re looking for an autostart and need highly skilled and trained installers to work on your complex European vehicle, Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security will take care of you.

Product Spotlight: Compustar Two-Way R3 with LTE

12/17/2019 By BestCarAudio.com

Compustar 2-way

For 2020, Compustar, the world leader in remote car starter solutions, has upped its game by including a DroneMobile X1-LTE module with all of its two-way remote bundles. For this spotlight, we are going to look at the RFX-P2WR3-SS Pro two-way R3 with LTE package that features a single-button, long-range remote control and one of the new DroneMobile interfaces as a secondary way to control the starter system.

Compustar Two-Way R3 Remote Control

Compustar 2-wayThe radiofrequency (RF) remote included in this kit features a compact, one-button design that provides intuitive control over door locking and unlocking, as well as remote start functionality. A quick tap of the button locks the doors and, when equipped with optional security features, arms the alarm. Tapping the button twice in less than a second unlocks the doors and disarms the alarm. To remote start your car or truck, press and hold the button for three seconds. If you want to stop the engine, press and hold the button again for three seconds.

The Pro two-way R3 remote uses digital spread-spectrum technology to provide up to 2 miles (3.2 km) of range under ideal conditions. This amazing performance helps ensure that you can start your vehicle while inside a shopping mall, an apartment tower or office building where electrical interference and concrete and metal stud walls reduce the efficacy of radio-frequency communication. The strong signal transmission power means there’s no need to wait until you are outside to start your vehicle, and it will have more time to warm up.

Compustar 2-wayAfter each button press, an LED on the remote will flash to indicate that the command has been sent to the vehicle. Once the command has been executed by the system, the remote will beep, and an LED will flash. Unlike other products on the market, confirmation of remote starting is provided only once the engine is running. This two-way communication ensures that you always know the status of the vehicle.

Compustar Pro-Series remote controls are backed by an industry-leading three-year warranty against manufacturing defects. All of the remotes have a water-resistant design and feature a durable injection-molded plastic case that shrugs off day-to-day use and abuse.

DroneMobile Smartphone Control

DroneMobile is Compustar’s smartphone remote control interface. The RFX-P2WR3-SS package includes one of the new DroneMobile X1-LTE interfaces as a companion to the RF remote. The X1-LTE module uses a cellular data connection to communicate with the DroneMobile app on your smartphone to provide an effectively unlimited range. DroneMobile allows you to start your vehicle from anywhere that your smartphone has internet access. You can check the status of your vehicle while you’re in another country for business or vacation. As a bonus, if you’ve asked your retailer to add security features like the DAS II shock/motion/tilt sensor to your remote starter, the DroneMobile app will provide nearly instant alerts if the alarm is triggered.

DroneMobile ModuleWhile the R3 remote is ready to control your remote starter out of the box, the DroneMobile service requires a subscription. Compustar includes 30 days of DroneMobile Premium service for free when you activate your account. After 30 days, you can pick from one of three service packages to ensure that you are always in touch with your vehicle. Compustar includes a key tag and hangtag to make it easy to remember the interface serial number when it comes time to register the system at DroneMobile.com.

The service packages include the Basic option that provides car control — locking, unlocking, trunk release (if installed) and remote start — as well as alarm alerts and vehicle status information. The popular Premium package adds GPS-based warnings, geofencing, and point of interest and curfew alert functionality. If you’re a business owner, you may want to opt for the Premium Plus package that adds trip reporting in CSV format and idling alerts.

Never Get into an Uncomfortable Vehicle Again

If you dread cold winter mornings or scorching summer afternoons, visit your local authorized Compustar Pro dealer and ask about the new RFX-P2WR3-SS Pro R3 two-way with LTE remote package to make your car, truck or SUV more comfortable. Adding Power Locks and Door Poppers

08/23/2017 By John Schwartz

Power LocksPerfectionist Auto Sound and Security in Anchorage is well known for our remote start and security system installations. Did you know that adding power locks to vehicles without power lock control is an option? Adding power door locks is a popular option for older vehicles and work trucks. Read on to find out how we can give you remote control over the security of your vehicle.

Vehicles with Factory Door Lock Control

When our installation team installs a remote car starter, security system, or keyless entry system on a vehicle with power door lock control installed from the factory, we send an electrical signal out from the brain of the unit. This signal goes to the motor in the door, or the vehicle ECU to tell it when to lock and unlock. In some vehicles, the door locks are controlled by the factory alarm system. They lock and unlock as we arm or disarm the system.

What if you do not have Power Locks?

Power LocksIf your vehicle does not have power locks, we can add a device called a door lock actuator to control the door locks in each of your doors mechanically. These actuators, sometimes called door lock poppers or door lock solenoids, are mounted securely in each door and are controlled by our system controller.

You still have full manual control over the lock mechanism in the vehicle. Your key or the lever inside the vehicle will still function normally, even after we have installed actuators.

What Else Can We Control?

Power LocksIf you have a lock on the hatch of your SUV, we can control that with a solenoid as well. We can piggyback on rear hatch release switches to make loading cargo easier. If your vehicle does not have a power trunk release, we can add a different kind of solenoid to pop your trunk from your remote control. There is no limit to what we can connect to and control with a Compustar remote starter or security system.

Some drivers like to have their doors locked while driving. We can even configure your door locks to lock when you start moving, then unlock when you stop the vehicle and turn off the ignition.

Alaska’s Best Installation

The installation staff at Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security are the best in Alaska. Whether we are installing a remote keyless entry system on a brand-new vehicle equipped with every power option available, or we are adding a remote starter and security system with power door locks and power trunk release to an older vehicle. Our team regularly attends training sessions. We stay at the leading edge of technologies and processes that will increase the performance and reliability of the systems we install. We employ a two-man check-in/check-out process to ensure the system we install in your vehicle will function reliably for years.

Add Security and Convenience at Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security

Sprinter Van Alarm Adds Protection for Anchorage Client

08/18/2017 By John Schwartz

Sprinter Van AlarmA client from here in Anchorage contacted Perfectionist Auto Sound and Security to have a 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van alarm installed. After meeting with the customer to understand his concerns about the vehicle, we devised a plan to protect it. The client approved our plan, so we scheduled an appointment for the installation.

Vehicle and System Preparation

Sprinter Van Alarm
A battery charger ensures the battery remains in premium condition.
Sprinter Van Alarm
The brain for the system is securely clamped into the jig for wiring.
Sprinter Van Alarm
All of the wiring is neatly grouped in preparation for installation.

Each vehicle that enters our work area is treated to a thorough and documented inspection process. We look at the physical condition of the vehicle and note any issues like scratches or dents. We confirm the functionality of major electrical systems and ensure there are no check-engine lights or warnings on the dash before we start work. We connect the vehicle battery to our fully computerized Snap-On battery charger to ensure it will be in perfect condition when the vehicle leaves, even if we have worked on it all day.

Our technicians prepare every security and remote starter system we install on a benchtop jig. We bundle the wires we are going to use in the installation together to make the system neat and tidy once we mount it in the vehicle. We use tesa cloth tape to hold everything together and ensure it will not buzz or rattle once the client starts driving.

Compustar Security System

Sprinter Van Alarm
To enhance safety, A pin switch was used to disable the remote starter if the hood is open.
Sprinter Van Alarm
The Compustar remote is even more rugged than the factory remote!

This security system is based around a Compustar FT-7000AS Remote Starter and Security system control module. Once our technician integrated the controller into the vehicle, we added a DB-ALL integration module to allow the remote starter portion of the system to start the vehicle. We connected to the factory door pin wiring so that the alarm will know if someone opens a door and sound the alarm. The FT-DAS 3-in-1 security system was the final addition to the brain. This sensor provides shock, motion and digital tilt detection to add another barrier of protection to the client’s van.

The client chose the RF-1WG6 remote control package to control his Sprinter van alarm system. Also known as the Prime G6 remote, this remote kit provides up to 1,000 feet of range. The heavy-duty remote is water-resistant, so dropping it in a puddle or snowbank will not be the end of it.

Vehicle Check-Out Process

As important as our check-in process is; our check-out process is even more detailed. The technician who performed the installation will review the system and vehicle to ensure everything functions correctly. Then, a second member of our team reviews the vehicle to ensure it is flawless. This second set of eyes catches even the minutest of oversights.

Just before we pull the vehicle out of our work area, we put a bottle of Perfectionist water in the cup holder and hang one of our VIP hangers on the rear view mirror. We reward our VIP clients with a 10% discount on a future purchase if they provide feedback on Google or Facebook. Our customers deserve only the best!

Sprinter Van Alarm and Remote Starter

We delivered the Sprinter back to the client and showed him how to use the new Compustar system. He was pleased and happy to have his vehicle and its contents protected.
